VB Tour – Belgium/Holland Tour

Last weekend saw the first in a series of parties taking the VB vibe across Europe to one or two of our friends and family who religiously take in the show or attend the event in Spain.
Saturday’s affair was a proper underground vibe in a small venue in Leuven, hosted by FunkyFeet (as per previous interview)
I got to meet Nathan Adams for the first time and spent some time with him and local DJ Jonathan whom I’d met previously at Suncebeat. I shan’t bore you with the ins and outs, instead you can check out the trip in photo form, at some point later in the summer I’ll put together a full video collating all the images as well as some video footage.
The night was a proper deep affair to begin as Ray Varnell played some quality, timeless vibes followed by Soul de Marin and a live performance from Nathan Adams. I took to the decks and slapped the crowd around the head with some new tracks and some big hitters from yesteryear, a real blend of deep and funky house classics – just the way I like to do it. The evening finished off with some great tunes from promoter and resident DJ, the lovely lady by the name of Dee (Saar Tibau). All in all it was a great vibe from the intimate crowd who followed the vibe every step of the way.
Here is some video recorded on the night

Sunday I headed to Amsterdam via car in the company of Marly Mar the promoter for Mondays at world-famous SupperClub.
Along the way we stopped off at Radio6 Soul n Jazz for a short interview and DJ mix with Phil Horneman on the Wicked Jazz Sounds show. If you want to hear the entire show (I strongly recommend it, just to hear Nathan’s amazing live performance) check out this link. Here is an accapella of Nathan singing as filmed by me.

Otherwise, here is my short mix:

Sunday night I resisted the urge to explore the streets of the Dam or head out to a night hosted by Wicked Jazz, opting for a quiet night in watching a movie and getting some much-needed rest. Monday I chilled all day in the hotel to do some work on a couple of websites. In Amsterdam !!?? I’m getting old man.
Mondays at the SupperClub have been running for some time now and after a great meal we headed to the venue only to walk in during one of their ‘alternative’ shows. Let’s just say it was “out there”. The venue was a lot smaller than I anticipated and the torrential rains teamed up with the fact that the day was a national holiday meant the evening was quieter than normal but the strong presence of the Southport/Suncebeat crew meant the vibe upstairs was perfect for an evening of sweet soulful rhythms, afro vibes and deep house grooves. Downstairs took a lot of the crowd for the R&B but that didn’t stop the party !
Kicking off were residents Marly Mar and Cl’audio, followed by Eddie 4Tune and another PA from Nathan before I ended off the night with a variety of newer bits and older vocal gems alongside Clark Kent on MC duties.
Respect to all the crew who made the night special, it was great to be with you all on your home turf. As I compile this blog I am listening to a recording of the night which will be shared on this week’s Vocal Booth Radio Show so you can hear the quality of music on offer. Remember to subscribe to the podcast if you are not already !
I’ve kept the words short and sweet as you’ll see, there are more than enough photos to back them up (alas my club photos skills leave a lot to be desired.. need to get my learn on) and the video will definitely go some way to capturing the vibe of the weekend. Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of Amsterdam’s scenery as the weather was atrocious.
**Edit – Here are the official photos from SupperClub
Special thanks to Saar, Jonathan, Marlon, Nathan, Bjorn, Marijn, the de Weert brothers and crew and the rest of the folks for making it a great opener to the tour.
Next stop – Switzerland in June!!
