Carrying on with the vinyl only theme for this week, I did indeed decide to get busy in the mix with the good stuff.
Working for so long with CDJs, I have gotten to love their functionality. I can be as heavy handed as I like and not have to feel stressed the whole time I am mixing. This is far from the case with vinyl.
If you ever get the opportunity to watch a DJ play vinyl, you will see so many different ways to mix. Some people use only the pitch control to fine tune the mix and never touch the platter (deck) itself. Other people give the centre pin a cheeky little twist to speed up the track whilst adjusting the tempo, or use their fingers as a brake on the side of the deck to slow it down a touch.
Personally, I like to give the label a little nudge forward or stroke the side of the deck to slow a record down.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.. I love my vinyl but I don’t miss having to carry it around the globe with me and I definitely don’t miss having to use it when I can barely focus !
For Episode 66 of The Vocal Booth Club Sessions you can watch me for the whole two hours as, once again, the whole mix is uploaded to Ustream. The video is embedded below although if you take a look on my home page you will always notice my latest Youtube vid and the last Ustream episode I put out.
The full track list and podcast is now live for you to download if you are not already subscribed.. since this is the first one of 2011 I wonder if it will hit the top spot on SSRadio again, as it did most weeks last year ?
