I am now the happy owner of a pair of Pioneer XDJ-1000 ‘multi players’.
Last year at the VBW I used my own CDJ1000s in the Pressure Cooker and whilst they worked fine for me at home and have done for the last 7+ years I’ve had them (maybe 10 ?) the constant wear and tear all weekend and obvious heavy hands of the VB DJs caused them to malfunction a little. I realised the extent of the problem when I had to use them for the first time since September at the recent UKG night in Xairo. I still managed fine through a 2 hour set but it was just the excuse I needed to take the plunge and commit to new equipment, as it would be necessary come September.
The XDJ-1000 are ‘basically the same’ as the new CDJ900/2000 except there’s no slot for the CD, meaning you use either a USB stick or your Hard drive/laptop to connect your music library, although why anyone would feel the need to use a laptop and/or separate controllers now is beyond me.
After just a few minutes of using them, I think they are absolutely fantastic. I urge anyone to commit and get them, they are half the price of the new CDJ2000s and come with touch screen, loop function and so much more !
Here is a video I had shared on Facebook showing the comparison. The reviewer adds a note that really, he would stick with the CDJ2000s. Well I’ve probably DJ’d a little more than him and find no reason at all why you’d want to pay all that extra money… but I am no tech expert at all so just expressing an opinion.
Thanks to Steve Crane at DJ Tech Direct for giving me some preliminary advice before I purchased these locally.
My CDJ1000s are now being serviced, I did think about selling them but then realised… “WTF am I going to play all my old CDs on ?” ha ha.

After a number of years of using Traktor I became a little bored with it and wanted to get back to more hands-on DJing but without having to plug in a sound card/laptop etc.. There was just no way that I could stretch to a pair of 2000’s so when the XDJ’s came out I was all over it!
I’ve now been using these for a few months months and absolutely love them! I bought a pair of of flight cases and actually take them with me if the club doesn’t have a pair of 2000’s install.
I was a bit worried about using the touch screen in a hot club with sweaty fingers but, they did not falter, not once!
I’m chuffed to bits with these little beauties and highly recommend them.
Thanks for this review. After reading other reiews this confirms my thoughts that this is the right one for me. I’ve been using Traktor S4 playing in bars for a few years and want to get CDJ to get used to them so I am comfortable using CDJs out. With traktor HID support added as well, this is ideal as I wasn’t prepared to fork out for CDJ-2000 Nexus to be honest.
